FedEx Kinko’s has shelved a controversial plan to offer a “GPS.LOC” file on their website. The file would have disclosed its store locations to users of handheld “global positioning system” (GPS) devices. “We admit it’s an essential tool for business travelers who need our services,” Kinko’s spokesman Vern Paxson said, “but our nation is at grave risk of a cyber attack. A GPS locator file would make it easier for cyber-terrorists to use our computers to attack the United States.” Paxson said Kinko’s will also dismantle a useful store-locator function on their website. “We don’t want to give cyber-terrorists the tools they need to destroy our great nation…”
